Description

This was a test squad I ran to get a feel for the new characters that came out. Before this match, I only had access to the core set.

Notes from the match:

  • Uncle Ben can hit surprisingly hard. 7 Damage max is a good threshold, as that downs all clone trooper supporting characters, the nightsister supports, and the blue mando supports. Mind Trick is incredible, creating a range 3 bubble that makes attacking into it a chore. Run makes Ben able to get across the entire map in a single turn.

  • Kraken's ability to move battle droid supports anywhere on the map cannot be understated. I shatterpointed him at one point, since it allowed me to secure two objectives on opposite sides of the map. He is also surprisingly durable. Steadfast can keep him on an objective more reliably to keep his Protection. He does suffer a little in the damage department as compared to Kalani, but his objective play is much more reliable.

  • The B2s felt okay. they didn't really get down their damage tree that often, but the damage for their expertise made them do fairly reliable chip damage. One thing I noticed a little late was that Saturation Fire doesn't have to be during a combat action, so they can turn the 5 die attack from Tactical Network and Appetite for Destruction into 7 die attacks. Free Protection also makes them surprisingly durable. Overall, they were okay, and I think they will work better when Kalani is fielded with them.

  • The Magnaguard was exactly as useful as I thought they would be. They seem like the go to target for extra battle droid attacks, as they can pretty reliably get down their tree. The free cover given to nearby primaries and secondaries was very useful.

  • Grievous and Darth Vader worked together exactly as well as I thought it would. Grievous' problem is that he's very predictable and exploitable, having one stance for damage and one stance for defense. Vader's unique power makes Grievous' defense stance have a lot more teeth and his offense stance overwhelmingly powerful, threatening to one shot primary characters pretty reliably. The two also don't require much force, so I never really found my self wishing I had more force. I never really had an opportunity to use I Have Been Trained in Your Jedi arts, but it's situational, so I don't really feel bad about that.
